Looking for an experienced Linux/HP/UX Systems Engineer with 10+ years experience. I need a candidate that is 60% on the Linux side and 40% on the HPUX side. This company currently has 20 large HPUX Servers that need to be maintained and supported while installing the new Linux Red Hat Servers that are coming in. They will have SAP and Oracle and a newly purchased manufacturing systems "PSI Metals". If you don't already know these technologies, they will train you.
Must local to the Houston, TX area.
This position will be 6 months + with the possibility of a renewal at the end of the 6 months.
Job Description:
Provide technical solutions and guidance for internal customers and team members in all aspects of Red Hat Linux and HPUX operating systems.
Act as subject matter expert and l iaison with internal clients for all Unix related matters; interact with vendors to negotiate solutions and implementation specifics; participate in the weekly change committee meeting.
Perform and assist internal customers and team members in resolving tier 2 and 3 Linux and Unix issues (incidents/problems/requests) utilizing Tenaris ticketing system.
Maintain a thorough working knowledge of the various Linux and Unix operating systems, networking technologies, procedures, and best practices; suggest ways to improve/expand upon the efficiency of Linux/Unix operations.
Install, configure, and support Red Hat Linux/HPUX Servers; apply patches; software and hardware upgrades, manage file systems, monitor performance and troubleshoot alerts from commercial monitoring tools.
Troubleshoot networking, systems, and applications within Unix O/S to identify and correct operational problems.
Manage systems backup, failure analysis, and recovery according to standard practice and retention policies insuring consistency and integrity of file systems.
Manage and lead Unix-related hardware and software migration and upgrade efforts of varying size and complexity.
Improve procedures, proposals, plans, and guidelines for Red Hat Linux and HPUX system configuration, deployment, and support.
Manage local UNIX accounts and privileges. Evaluate and remediate general security & access issues.
Produce documentation to satisfy audit requirements for SOX certification.
Assist in Unix training and development of other team members.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or equivalent combination of education and experience
10+ years of Unix technical system administrator experience
Experience with managing medium to large Unix infrastructure with little direct supervision
Excellent working knowledge of Linux and Unix Operating System. General knowledge of Windows Operating System.
Excellent knowledge and application of commonly used Unix concepts, practices, and procedures, including SAN (EMC), NAS & Volume Management, Shell Scripting, monitoring, reporting
Excellent working knowledge of networking topology protocols and services (ie TCP/IP, DNS/DHCP, NFS, CIFS)
Strong technical, analytical and problem solving skills
Customer focused with a dedication to customer satisfaction
Excellent judgment and decision making skills
Strong organizational skills
Ability to work after hours, weekends and on-call as needed
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Strong initiative, self-motivation, ability to complete tasks on time

Ability to identify and implement process improvement
Project Management experience a plus
Professional certifications in Linux/Unix system administration a plus.
