Job Roll
The UNIX and storage engineer's role is to design, build, and implement UNIX and SAN systems across the enterprise ensuring the stability and integrity of application services. In addition, the UNIX and storage engineer will be versed in the design of converged system and data solutions. This person will analyze system performance and provide capacity planning solutions. The UNIX and storage engineer will participate in the installation of new technology solutions for data and application infrastructure components. This individual will also be involved in monitoring, fault remediation, and optimization of all system and storage hardware, software and application. The UNIX and storage engineer is expected to identify problems in the enterprise system and application infrastructure and propose solutions.
Knowledge, Experience and Relevant Qualifications
5+ years of architecting, implementing and maintaining substantial UNIX, Linux Redhat, systems based primarily on Intel hardware.
5+ years of implementing and maintaining substantial SAN/NAS system.
3+ years of backup system implementing and maintaining.
Other Systems
Virtualization, VMware and Oracle VM
Windows Operating Systems
Working knowledge of HTTP, SNMP, SMTP, SSL
Responsibilities
Work within a team of UNIX system engineers to build and support enterprise systems.
Deliver a guaranteed level of application performance to our end users
Monitor all application Servers, on daily basis; including performance metrics reporting to identify system bottlenecks
Utilize and adhere to current best practices standards of administration
Procure, install, test, and maintain required third-party software systems that enhance system solution.
Maintain acceptable revision or version level of all system native
Analyze the business system and application for R&D requirements.
Provide appropriate designs based on business line requirements.
Create supporting design documentation.
Provide detailed Visio drawings for the storage and UNIX system.
Perform and document system availability calculations
Provide system and storage remediation
Create technology roadmaps for system UNIX and Storage.
Develop and write recommendations for departmental policies, procedures, technical standards and guidelines.
Develop and write global enterprise system and storage infrastructure documentation standards for all regions
Look for opportunities to reduce costs.
Setup and maintain disaster recovery as necessary
Perform system and storage components backup
Install and configure any system UNIX or storage equipment.
Coordinates all storage cabling efforts (move, add and changes).
Working to troubleshoots problems with data centre team.
Be proactive to find problem in the system UNIX and storage system and solve them.
Educational Background
Bachelor's of Science in computer technology.
Certified Unix system administrator.
Communication Skills
Must have good command of the verbal and written English language with the ability to write and speak clearly and concisely ensuring that all documents can be clearly understood within the team and by the user community worldwide.
Ability to communicate and support your team members and all level of staff within the company
Work closely with the other team members and other IT staff members, and ensure that your team is supportive and sympathetic to the users.
Be polite and helpful to the users at all times. Answer the phone quickly and politely. Promote professional, helpful, friendly and supportive Front End to the Group IT within the user community.
