Top-tier electronic trading firm has an immediate need for a driven, highly experienced Linux systems engineer to help build and support the technical infrastructure that underlies their proprietary trading applications.
Candidate will be responsible for high-level design of trading systems architecture, in-depth performance analysis and troubleshooting, planning and deployment of new installations of our trading infrastructure.
Strong analytical and creative skills as well as in-depth knowledge of operating systems, Scripting, and networks are a must.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and identify problems within large/complex systems.
Create, monitor and respond to system performance metrics in order to optimize the technical environment.
Create sustainable/scalable solutions to complex problems through Scripting and automation.
Identify and improve performance bottlenecks within individual applications/systems.
Collaborate with development and business teams to take advantage of new opportunities.
Key Skills/Attributes:
Deep understanding of Linux Operating System internals
o Understanding how network stacks, scheduler, virtual memory system, interrupt handling, and device drivers work
o Ability to dive into Kernel source
Extensive experience with Python/Perl Scripting
Create and extend operational tool set.
Automate common operational tasks
Investigate and explore performance data through charting and analysis.
Experience with performance analysis and optimization
o Familiarity with performance analysis tools (sar, oprofile, vmstat, iostat, strace, systemtap, tcpdump)
o Understanding of linux Kernel tunables(/PROC/sys, sysctl interfaces)
o Capable of performing statistical analysis of performance metrics
Conversant with network protocols/experience troubleshooting network issues (ie packet analysis/tcp dump/wireshark)
Willing to learn the intricacies of a world-class financial trading floor
Able and willing to do critical strategy work all the way through hands on implementation
