We are currently seeking a Linux Systems Engineer for an exciting contract opportunity to perform planning, designing and implementing server and application infrastructure to support internal and customer-facing services. You will work closely with database, storage and network peers to deliver technical solutions that meet business requirements.
Essential Functions:
- Serve as technical lead on new and on-going projects, collaborating with development, project management and other business units to deliver timely solutions that meet business requirements
- Gather and understand technical requirements for new systems designs
- Research, document and propose server and application configurations; establish standard solutions for re-use
- Work with Infrastructure Operations to implement, deploy and hand-over on-going management of designed solution
- Serve as subject matter expert for operating system (Windows, Linux, VMware, etc.)
- Identify and resolve problems to ensure adequate performance, scalability and capacity
- Work with vendors in a pre- and post-sales capacity to evaluate, implement and support products that enhance capabilities
- Research and investigate new technologies and recommend platform improvements to support future growth
Skills and Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or a related technical or equivalent experience
- 3-5 years of experience managing Linux or VMware systems infrastructure
- 2+ years experience working with Cloud Computing
-Windows Server 2003 and 2008
- Operational experience supporting enterprise class systems
- Hands-on experience working with network attached storage (eg NetApp)
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP network concepts, protocols, and applications
- Demonstrated ability to design and deploy highly available server solutions into existing operations
- Experience working in a structured change control environment
