I am seeking a Linux Systems Administrator with some programming skills. Alternatively candidates with a strong development background who have moved into a Unix Systems role would also be considered.

Reporting to the Operations and Application Support Manager and sitting between the platform and development teams, your duties and responsibilities will include:

Implementing continuous delivery and integration practices across the Portals and Online Services (POS) group. Providing support for these environments.

Troubleshooting deployment and environmental issues.

Working with Development Teams to deploy and support applications through standard tools and practices.

Ensure that development and operational teams are aware of standard deployment and operational practices

Helping to manage source code repositories and monitoring tools.

Ensure that Agile delivery methods and tools are adopted.

The escalation of issues to platform vendors.

In terms of approach, you must be an excellent communicator, self-starter, proactive and have a collaborative approach.

Ideal technical skill requirements (but combinations may be considered) are:

Linux Administration (Redhat preferred but other flavours considered)

Some Java/Ruby programming skills

Shell Scripting (other Scripting languages such as Perl, Python, PHP would also be considered)

Puppet configuration management

Apache, Tomcat, WebSphere (or other recognised) Application Server

Experience in general web technologies such as HTML and JavaScript would be advantageous although not essential
