Our Toronto client is seeking a UNIX Administrator for a 12 month contract, with benefits.
Responsibilities:
Perform day to day operational activities, including server building and administration, system patching and upgrade, backup and recovery, and data center management
Proactively monitor system logs and performance, respond to issues, troubleshoot and identify root causes, develop and implement technical resolutions
Act as subject matter expert (SME) for technical initiatives and ongoing support
Assess, research, and analyze business and system requirements, Explorer alternative options to recommend and design technology solutions to meet those needs
Participate in and provide input to system architecture design, planning, and implementation of new systems
Work collaboratively with other internal teams, external partners and vendors to ensure all aspects of IT project and support requests are met
Work as an escalation point for Help Desk end user support and help train junior staff
Create and maintain technical documentation
Keep current on knowledge of emerging technologies by reading professional publications, and participating in educational and training opportunities
Education/Qualifications:
University Degree in Computer Sciences or equivalent
More than eight (8) years progressive system administration experience in UNIX, Windows, and VMware environment
Strong working experience with Solaris, RedHat Enterprise, VMware, UNIX file system, LDAP, Oracle VDI, SAN and Blade infrastructure, and Symantec Backup Exec and VTL solution
Ability to provide guidance to Help Desk resources
Ability to manage multiple projects and to set priorities
Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills
Strong communication and customer service skills
Official system administration certifications are desirable
Experience with Health Care Sector, SAS, and Datawarehouse is an asset
Employment Type: Contract
Duration: 6 months
